DESCRIPTION: ...The National Weather Service in Buffalo NY has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers in New York... Buffalo Creek at Gardenville affecting Erie and Wyoming Counties. For the Buffalo Creek...including Gardenville...Moderate flooding is forecast. * WHAT...Moderate flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Buffalo Creek at Gardenville. * WHEN...Until Wednesday evening. * IMPACTS...At 8.0 feet, Moderate flood, flooding is likely along low lying areas near the Buffalo Creek, especially near Collins Avenue, Elma Town Park, and in some sections of Elma Village north of the Bowen Road bridge. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 9:15 PM EDT Tuesday the stage was 6.57 feet. - Bankfull stage is 7.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage late this evening to a crest of 8.6 feet tomorrow morning. It will then fall below flood stage early tomorrow afternoon. - Flood stage is 7.0 feet. - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 8.5 feet on 09/29/1967. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

A hole punch cloud is an unusual occurrence when a disk-shaped
hole appears in a cirrostratus, cirrocumulus, or altocumulus cloud.
When part of the cloud forms ice crystals, water droplets in the surrounding area
of the cloud evaporate. The effect of this process produces a large elliptical
gap in the cloud. The hole punch cloud formation is rare, but it is not specific
to any geographic area.
Other names which have been used to describe this phenomena include fallstreak hole,
skypunch, and cloud hole.

A nimbostratus cloud is similar to a stratus cloud in its formless,
smooth appearance. However, a nimbostratus cloud is darker than a stratus cloud,
because it is thicker.
Unlike a stratus cloud, a nimbostratus cloud typically brings with it the threat
of moderate to heavy precipitation. In some cases, the precipitation may evaporate
before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga.
